overview

Installation of the ENERGY SAVER Window is a simple procedure. Look over these abbreviated instructions and you'll understand how well the window has been made and how it has been designed to fit perfectly in place of the old window.

Installation is not complicated. The new window is basically a replacement for the track and operating sash of your old window. The frame remains intact, only the operating pieces are removed. In their place the ENERGY SAVER Window is installed built specifically for your opening, sized exactly to slip into the frame, easy and right the first time.

Each ENERGY SAVERWindow is supplied with a sill angle (or Starter strip) and a head expander. The starter strip levels the window to the sloped sill of the old frame, and the head expander assures a weathtight fit even in an out-of-square opening. These are an adjustable stabilizer that centers the window in the opening.

Take Out the Old Window

  1. Remove inside moldings or stops with broad chisel and save for later use.
  2. Cords and weights (or spring balances) are then removed, so that the old bottom wood sash can be taken out.
  3. Pry out parting stops at top and sides to allow top sash to be taken out.
  4. If your window is fitted with aluminum tracks, remove staples and both sashes will remove with tracks.

Clean and Prepare Opening

  1. Install sill angle on sill 1/8" behind blind stop.
  2. Caulk inside and outside edge of stool. Also caulk outside blindstop and along top.
  3. Place expander on top of window and caulk along top of expander. You may wish to put insulation inside the expander. Expander legs may be trimmed to accommodate various heights.
  4. Set window in opening, resting on sill angle.

Set in the New ENERGY SAVER

  1. Check for plumb and level.
  2. There are two screws for each side jamb. Install top screws on rightand left jamb. Once the top and bottom sets of screws are "finger tight," turn the adjusting until they are "finger tight."
  3. Temporarily shim sides with flat shims to assure plumb and level. Shim behind the screw holes so that tightening the mounting screws doesn't warp the frame.
  4. Lift expander flush with top of SILL ANGLE opening. Drill holes and secure with small screws at lowest part of expander to insure contact with window.
  5. Replace inside stop moldings.
